This book isn’t the easiest to read, and relies primarily on sketches rather than photographs, but it is a worthwhile book to have if only for the comparative discussions of design approaches and selection of detail features. Reading these discussions make you more conscious of the design points that should be considered. Use of the golden rectangle is dealt with early in the book, and then Blackburn progresses through a variety of design approaches, construction details and hand tool methods. Primarily aimed at design issues, it is an interesting book on the first read, but I haven’t found myself going back to it very often.
