Jeff is a sometimes-contributor to the oldtools list, and has a remarkably helpful web site (www.homesteadfinishes.com). Here, he condenses most of this information in printed form. This book covers tools, surface preparation, coloring, applying finishes, and much more. It is quite comprehensive, including information on how to select finishing materials and how to mix your own. Several examples of complex finishes are included. In addition to the normal coverage of staining, topcoating, etc. more specialized techniques like glazing and pore-filling are also given good coverage. Well-illustrated, and with quite a few charts comparing the strengths and weaknesses of various finishes. Good troubleshooting information as well, in case things don't quite go as expected. This is the only finishing book I have, and has always given me the answers I needed.
