Originally published in 1942, this brief manual focuses on repetitive patterns and traditional relief carving. Sayers’s gruff-but-encouraging tone and-especially-his recommendation of a mere four or five tools for all of his projects make this the starter lesson from an old master you’ve been looking for. Not much hand-holding, but everything you need to know is in the terse text and the cool b&w “sequence” photos. 118 pages, paperback, b&w photos
